Nepal: Hindu Devotees Flock to Pashupatinath as Holy Month of Shravan Begins

Kathmandu (Nepal), July 17 (ANI): Thousands of Hindu devotees gathered at the Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu to mark "Shravan Sakranti," the beginning of the holy month of Shravan dedicated to Lord Shiva. Long queues of worshippers, carrying baskets filled with offerings, extended to every corner of the temple as they patiently waited for their turn to enter and offer prayers. According to the Nepali calendar, Shravan is the fourth month and holds special religious significance for Hindus. It is devoted to Lord Shiva, and during this time, women observe fasts while wearing green, yellow, and red bangles and beads as symbols of devotion. During the month of Shravan, devotees, especially on Mondays, visit Shiva temples to offer prayers to Lord Shiva. According to religious beliefs, unmarried girls who observe fasts on all Mondays of this month are blessed with a husband of their choice. Meanwhile, married women fast for the well-being, prosperity, and longevity of their husbands and families. Unmarried women also participate in religious processions, praying for a good life partner, while married women do so to ensure the health and happiness of their loved ones. It is believed that those who bathe early in the morning and visit Shiva temples on the first Monday of Shravan, offering their devotion, are granted their wishes and receive blessings and good fortune from Lord Shiva. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Pashupatinath Temple holds immense significance for Hindus, as Lord Shiva is revered as the creator, destroyer, and protector of the universe.
