Nepal: Devotees flock to Krishna Temple on Janmashtami

Lalitpur (Nepal), Aug 23 (ANI): Patan Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Lalitpur district of Nepal, witnessed a heavy influx of devotees with serpentine queues leading to the Krishna Temple to celebrate the birthday of Lord Krishna or 'Janmashtami'. Krishna Janmashtami, is being celebrated throughout the country with much adoration and veneration. As per the scriptures, Lord Krishna, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu, protector of human beings from evil, injustice, and devilish forces, was born on the midnight of Bhadrakrishna Ashtami of the lunar calendar during the Dwapar era. He is also regarded as the proponent of the three principles of spirituality, Gyan Yog, Karma Yog, and Bhakti Yog.Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated in magnificently to cherish the life events of Lord Krishna and people pray for a happy and prosperous life. Devotees, especially women, spend the night chanting prayers and devotional songs, dancing and lighting oil lamps. Various religious organisations and institutions celebrate the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna by organising colourful processions with the idols of Lord Krishna flanked by decorative portraits. He is also named "Gopal" for his dedicated service to the cows as a herder and also is known as "Manmohan" for the melodies he used to play on his flute, charming everyone.
