Nepal-China Border hit by devastating floods; Rescue Operations in Full Swing

Rasuwa (Nepal), July 10 (ANI): A recent flash flood along the Nepal-China border has caused widespread devastation, disrupting lives and leaving behind a trail of destruction two days after the disaster struck. Originating from Tibet’s Lhende River, the deluge swept through the region, burying vehicles under debris and washing away major roadways. At least nine people have been confirmed dead, while 19 remain missing. As the crisis enters its third day, the Rasuwagadhi-Timure stretch remains completely cut off from the outside world. Essential services such as electricity, internet, and telephone have been disrupted since Tuesday, further deepening the crisis and amplifying the trauma faced by survivors. Among them is Ram Bahadur, one of the only seven survivors from a group of thirteen caught in Tuesday's flood. Over 1,100 metres of roadway across ten different sites have been badly damaged. Four hydropower stations have sustained significant destruction. According to local authorities, the dry port is largely non-functional, and recovery efforts are being delayed due to the inaccessibility for heavy machinery. The flood was caused by heavy rainfall and a suspected glacial lake outburst on the Chinese side of the border, leading to a sudden rise in the Bhotekoshi River's water level.
