Multinational armies gather in Nepal for disaster response drills

Kathmandu (Nepal), Sep 26 (ANI): The multinational Disaster Response Exercise and Exchange (DREE) started in Nepal aiming to strengthen coordination among various nations on humanitarian assistance, rescue and assistance mobilization. This sort of joint exercise comes after the major earthquake in the 2015. The annual civil-military disaster preparedness and response initiative is being jointly organized by the Nepali Army and the U.S. Army Pacific (USARPAC). The event, which started from Tuesday, is expected to revolve around evaluating civil military coordination mechanism; mass casually simulation; search and rescue exercise; camp coordination. The joint exercise will also include the Tribhuvan International Airport disaster response plan that will explore ways to deal with earthquakes.Representatives from military and disaster preparedness and response initiative of 14 countries including Nepal are taking part in the four-day event. This type of exercise was earlier held in 2011, 2013 and 2016 in Kathmandu. The Nepali Army said that such sort of event will be conducted at the province-level from next time.
