Bhaktapur, Nepal (ANI): Hindu devotees have begun their month long fasting ritual on Madhav Narayan festival in Nepal. Devotees gathered at Hanuman ghat in Bhaktapur to take a holy dip. They pay their obeisance to Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva and Hindu goddess Swasthani during the festival. The festival is celebrated alongside Swasthani Brata – a month long fasting ritual. The fast is observed across the nation from ‘Paush Shukla Poornima’ to ‘Magh Shukla Poornima’ or full moon day. The Madhav Narayan is being observed since 722 Bikram Sambatas (Nepali Calender) as mentioned in religious scriptures. Although, the celebrations got hindered for some years but since my childhood I have seen the festival being observed continuously. During the festival, the devotees go on fasting for a month and have meals only once a day. Madhav Narayan is one of the significant festivals in Nepal and celebrated across the nation.
