Israel-Hamas War: Israel maritime police seals off coast near border with Gaza

The war between Israel and the Hamas terrorist group continues to escalate with each passing day. In the wake of the conflict, the port of Ashkelon and its oil terminal were shut down. Meanwhile, Israeli maritime police patrolled the coastline between Israel and Gaza on October 27. Israel relies on its seaports for its trade as well as for much of its needs including consumer goods and food. Police Superintendent Avi Sharara recalled how Hamas gunmen infiltrated Israel, killing 1,400 people and seizing more than 200 hostages. He said that Israel maintained the maritime closure of its southern coast which borders the Gaza Strip. Israel has faced heavy rocket barrages, prompting the closure of the Ashkelon port, which is the nearest terminal to Gaza. The deadly war has claimed the lives of more than 9,000 people; 7,326 Palestinians and more than 1,400 Israeli citizens.
