New Delhi, Oct 05 (ANI): Iraqi forces have captured the town of Hawija and the surrounding area from Islamic State. With the capture of Hawija, the militants' last stronghold in northern Iraq, the only area that remains under control of Islamic State in Iraq is a stretch alongside the western border with Syria. Hawija is close to the oil-city of Kirkuk. The country's prime minister on Thursday declared the military has liberated the town of Hawija, ousting the militant group from its last stronghold in northern Iraq. Footage released by Iraqi police shows troops walking through a nearby village, greeting and dancing with its residents who have been living under Islamic State since 2014.
