India's envoy to Nepal lays wreath on the tomb of Begum Hazrat Mahal

Kathmandu (Nepal), Apr 18 (ANI): In a gesture of showing close ties between India and Nepal, India's envoy to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri, laid the wreath on the tomb of Begum Hazrat Mahal in Kathmandu city. Many people, both young and old, assembled to pay honors to the brave hearted princess of Awadh, who rebelled against the British East India Company during the Indian Rebellion of 1857. She finally found asylum in Nepal where she died in 1879. Ambassador Manjeev Puri highlighted the time of the struggle and thanked Nepal for lending the hand at the time of struggle. Begum Hazrat Mahal's tomb is located in central part of Kathmandu near Jami Masjid. It is looked by the Jama Masjid Central Committee. The memorial is a symbol of strong cultural and historical ties between India and Nepal.
