India welcomes ASEAN initiative on Myanmar at UNGA

New York (USA), June 19 (ANI): Speaking at United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) over adoption of resolution on Myanmar, India’s Permanent Representative to United Nations, TS Tirumurti said India welcomed Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) initiative and ‘Five-Point Consensus’ on Myanmar. “India welcomes ASEAN initiative on Myanmar and ‘five-point consensus’. Our diplomatic engagements will be aimed at strengthening these efforts. We call for upholding the rule of law and release of detained leaders,” Tirumurti said. “India’s position on Myanmar's situation has been clear and consistent. We have expressed our deep concern on the developments in Myanmar. We strongly condemn use of violence and urge maximum restraint,” he added.
