India at UN: Rise in hostilities will provide opportunities for terror groups in Yemen

New York, USA (ANI) March 20, 2021: India at UN expressed concern over the recent escalations in several parts of Yemen. ‘The situation is worrisome as it will provide opportunities to terrorist groups’ ‘Al Qaeda and Islamic State may spread their presence in strife-torn country’. India said it is deeply concerned over reports of military confrontations in Taiz, Al Jawf and Sana. India also participated at the UN High-Level meeting on Water. Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat took part in a virtual meet. India has been implementing a comprehensive time-bound strategy to achieve SDG-6. To address Water-related issues, a new Ministry of Water Conservation and Management was established in 2019. India has launched the Water is Life Mission (Jal Jeevan). It’s a US$ 50 billion project to provide safe and piped drinking water to all households by 2024. India’s permanent mission to the UN and AIWEFA jointly organised an event on women empowerment. Ambassador Tirumurti said that achieving gender equality is India’s priority. He said PM Modi has moved the nation from paradigm of women’s development to women-led development. UN also recalled that 1st women police UN peacekeeping contingent was from India. India also participated in Arria Formula Meeting organized by UK at UN on Religion, Belief & Conflict. India reiterated ‘we believe not only in universal toleration but accept all religions as true’. ‘The tradition of tolerance and pluralism gives India its unique cultural and civilization identity’. The constitution of India guarantees right to freedom to all its citizens including the freedoms of religion, belief, faith and worship.
