US Department of Justice on Nov 30 unsealed an indictment against an Indian national. US’ indictment was unsealed alleging murder-for-hire charges against Indian national Nikhil Gupta. Indictment was unsealed against Nikhil in connection with his participation in a foiled plot to assassinate Pannu. While reacting to it, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said, “This is something we take very seriously”. Meanwhile, clearing India’s stand, MEA Spox stated that the news of US indictment “is a matter of concern”. India on Nov 29 formed a high-level inquiry committee to address the security concerns highlighted by the US government. US Secretary of State also welcomed the probe panel set up by India and said “It’s good and appropriate”. India remained a strategic partner but US take alleged assassination plot ‘very seriously’, said White House spokesperson John Kirby.
