Kathmandu (Nepal), Feb 11 (ANI): With parliamentary elections set for March 5, Nepal is pressing ahead with its nationwide Human Papillomavirus (HPV) immunisation campaign to protect adolescent girls from cervical cancer. The Ministry of Health and Population has directed authorities to complete vaccinations within three weeks to avoid poll-related disruptions. The drive targets 345,000 grade 6 girls and 55,000 out-of-school girls, while also covering those who missed earlier doses. School-based and health-centre vaccinations aim to ensure broad access. HPV, transmitted through skin contact, is a leading cause of cervical cancer, which claims hundreds of Nepali lives annually. Backed by World Health Organization guidance, the campaign underscores Nepal’s commitment to safeguarding girls’ health even amid election preparations and nationwide logistical challenges.
