Final phase of local elections underway in Nepal

Kathmandu (Nepal), Sep 18 (ANI): After a long wait, people in province number two are queuing up in 3,578 polling stations to choose their local representative in an interval of nearly two decades in Kathmandu on Monday. Voting for the third phase of polls will be conducted between 7:00am and 7:00pm.Province 2 has eight districts with one metropolitan city, three sub metropolitan cities, 73 municipalities and 59 rural municipalities. In third phase of local polls, a total of 37,236 candidates are in the fray and is claimed to be six times more than that of previous ones. The final round of election, which is the first step towards the implementation of the constitution promulgated in 2015, is hailed as the milestone for Nepali politics. As per the new constitution, local, province and parliament elections need to be completed by 21 January 2018. Provincial and parliamentary elections are scheduled to be held in two phases on November and December.
