Georgetown (Guyana), April 24 (ANI): Recalling India’s ‘many contributions’ to the world, Union External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar on April 23 in Guyana’s Georgetown called India a ‘deserving candidate’ for the UNSC non-permanent candidature. Pointing out the lack of representation at the UNSC, Jaishankar also spoke about Latin America and Africa of not having enough representation on the said platform. “India is today the most populous country in the world. It is the 5 largest economy, and it makes its contributions to the world in many ways. So we think we are a deserving candidate. However, this is not just about India. All of Latin America is not represented in the UNSC. All of Africa is also not represented. It was founded 80 years ago and the world has sure changed a lot in these many years. The UN member needs to sit down and decide what they wish to keep and what they wish to change. Recent incidences have underlined that UN’s credibility has come under challenge. It does not have command on representation as good as it should have,” Jaishankar said.
