Devotees thank gods by covering body with cow dung, lit oil-lamps in Nepal

Bhaktapur (Nepal), Oct 15, 2021, (ANI): Hindu devotees of Nepal are following a unique tradition of thanking the god for answering the calls. In that process, devotees cover themselves with a thick layer of cow-dung and then the oil-fed-lamps are installed onto it and lit up turn by turn. Devotees have been following this unique tradition since ages in which the people of various age group participates in various forms. They lay still on the same position for at least 6 hours, families and relatives always remain on their side to not let any of the lamp go off or let it fall. Earlier in 2020 with the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, a lesser number of devotees footfalls were recorded in the temple with people hosting oil-fed-lamps on their body dropped in comparison to other years. Usually, devotees place, 3, 5, 7, 18 or even 108 oil-fed-lamps on their body. This is also believed to bring on good fortunes and helps get rid of sins.
