Devotees in Nepal celebrate Naag Panchami festival

Kathmandu (Nepal), Aug 02 (ANI): Devotees in Nepal thronged to famous Naag Pohkari to celebrate the annual festival of Naag Panchami, a day dedicated to Hindu lord Shiva. Naag Panchami is regarded as an auspicious day in Hindu mythology. Shiva devotees offer milk, fruits and flowers to snake idols on this day. Devotees were also flocked to various Naag Temples and nearby temples to worship the deity. They were stunned to see a live Monocled Cobra in a basket brought by a snake charmer on premises of Naag Pokhari coinciding with the festivity of Naag Panchami. On the day of Naag Pnachami, the 'Naag Pokhari', a pond dedicated to the serpent deity in Kathmandu is worshipped. Special offerings of dubo grass, flower and rice grains mixed with red vermillion powder are offered. Along with milk, milk-based sweets and fruits are also offered. Naag Panchami' is also regarded as the festival to strengthen the bond between humans and nature.
