Crez elections: Pro-Russian Milos Zeman wins second term

Czech Republic, Jan 28 (ANI): Incumbent Milos Zeman won the Czech presidential election on Saturday (January 27). Anti-immigration, pro-Russian Zeman beat his pro-EU opponent Jiri Drahos in the close-run race. Incumbent Czech President Milos Zeman won a second five-year term. The 73-year-old defeated pro-European Union contender Jiri Drahos proving popularity of his tough stance against immigration. Zeman is the last prominent figure among active politicians from the country's post-communist transitional period in the 1990s. As well as his opinions on immigration, he was one of the few European politicians to back Donald Trump in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Zeman has attracted criticism over his warm relations with Russia's Vladimir Putin and calls to end EU sanctions against Moscow imposed over its annexation of Crimea. He's also keen to hold an in-or-out referendum over the country's membership of the European Union. Jiri Drahos, Zeman's rival in the election, is far more pro-EU and could have set the country apart from its ex-communist peers Poland and Hungary.
