Costa Rica test-drives its first hydrogen fuel cell electric buses

Liberia (Costa Rica), Nov 28 (ANI): Costa Rica unveiled its first hydrogen fuel cell electric bus with an aim to move towards 100 percent renewable energy. The bus is powered by hydrogen gas made from solar panels and a wind turbine. The vehicle can accommodate 40 passengers and can travel an approximate range of 338 km (210 miles) on 38 kg (83 lbs) of compressed hydrogen. The electric bus project cost approx USD 4 million and the first rides are to take place in the city of Liberia in June. According to official figures, Costa Rica hopes to be a carbon neutral nation by 2021. Government has also launched several schemes to get people away from traditional petrol-powered cars.
