Another confrontation between US-China, a Chinese fighter jet encountered the US reconnaissance plane on May 26. The faceoff took place while the US Plane was conducting ‘safe & routine’ operations over South China Sea. According to US Indo-Pacific Command, a J-16 Chinese jet intercepted a US RC-135 reconnaissance aircraft. The US claimed that the J-16 fighter jet carried out an "unnecessarily aggressive" manoeuvre near its military plane. The Chinese jet flew “directly in front of the nose” of the RC-135 in a very highly risky manoeuvre. The manoeuvre by the J-16 fighter jet forced the US Air Force’s plane to ‘fly through its wake turbulence’. It’s not the first time that Chinese and US planes have confronted each other over the South China Sea. On December 2022, a Chinese J-11 jet came within 10 feet of the US’ same RC-135 aircraft. It forced the USAF aircraft to take evasive manoeuvres to avoid a collision in international airspace. The United States had condemned the incident and termed it China’s ‘dangerous behaviour’. However, China negated US’ claim and said that the USAF recon aircraft had violated international law
