Burkina Faso, Dec 09 (ANI): Burkina Faso's cotton sector finally settled a dispute with U.S. seed maker Monsanto over what it said were revenue losses caused by the introduction of genetically modified cotton. For the cotton farmers of Burkina Faso, genetically modified crops are for now a thing of the past. This season, Africa's top cotton producing country returned to conventional crops after an eight-year GM partnership with U.S. agro-chemical giant Monsanto failed. Since 2008, after seeing their crops ravaged by the bollworm, cotton growers in Burkina Faso began using a pest-resistant cotton strain, first introduced in the U.S. In December 2016 the Burkina-Monsanto partnership ended with Monsanto writing off Burkina's more than 19 million dollar debt.
