Bhandari takes charge as Nepal President for second term

Kathmandu (Nepal), Mar 15 (ANI): Nepal’s first woman President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has taken charge as the Nepal President for the second term. Bhandari took oath on Wednesday amid a procession, organised in President’s Residence Shital Niwas. Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli administered the oath taking ceremony, in the presence of Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli and incumbent Vice- President Nanda Bahadur Pun and the House Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara. According to the Election Commission of Nepal, President Bhandari of the Left Alliance garnered 39,275 votes. Her competitor, Laxmi Rai of the opposition Nepali Congress party secured 11,730 votes. EC will elect the vice president on 23rdmarch. Nepal’s new constitution, promulgated in 2015, has the provision of the federal structure and it has completed the marathon election of local bodies, Provincial Council and the Parliament, along with the election for the National Assembly in the year of 2017-18.
