France, Jan 13 (ANI): Sale of a number of Lactalis baby foods made at one of its factories in Lactalis were halted after a salmonella health scare began last month. Over 30 children have fallen ill and the crisis deepened this week. Carrefour, Leclerc, Auchan and Systeme U admitted some products were still being sold. The government is now hoping to limit reputational damage. The recall also risks damaging Lactalis in China, a fast-growing market for baby food and dairy products. Consumers there are highly sensitive after melamine-tainted baby milk led to the deaths of six children in 2008. Lactalis has annual sales of around 17 billion euros The halting of operations at the affected factory has led to a temporary lay off of 250 workers.
