Mysore (Karnataka) Nov 15 (ANI): The land of royal majesty Mysore, is also famous for beautiful landscapes. Located 87 miles from the state capital Bengaluru, Mysore was the erstwhile capital of Wodiyars - the rulers of Mysore state. The Wodiyar family ruled Mysore since 14th century. However, for a brief period from 1734 to 1766 Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan ruled Mysore. Even though the stint was short, Tipu Sultan left his mark on Mysore. The Laal Mahal, built in 1775, was made of lime and redstone. Most of the tourists come to Mysore looking for items made of sandalwood or rosewood as the vicinity of the city is surrounded by sandalwood or rosewood forests. These pieces make excellent gifts and decorative items. The silk sarees are also very popular and you can buy super silk here. The city is also famous for its wildlife and Mysore Zoo is the best place to witness the same. The best time to visit Mysore is between October to March. Mysore has never failed to mesmerised the tourists.
