Ernakulam (Kerala), Dec 13 (ANI): Set amid the lush green forests and much different from the conventional images of Kerala’s backwaters, the scenic beauty of Bhoothathankettu dam in Ernakulam is a relishing paradise for tourists. According to legends, the place was originally fortified with forest and hills by ghosts and spirits and that’s how the place has got its name, Bhooth meaning ghost. Adjacent to the dam is Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary, which boasts of more than 300 species of birds. One of the best ways to visit this place is by a private houseboat which covers the expanse of the water-body making it a memorable experience. The place is situated at a convenient distance from Kochi Airport (16 miles) and Ernakulam Junction Railway station (31 miles). The best time to visit Bhoothathankettu is between September and March.
