“We are cooling them down…” Manipur Police resort to tear gas as student protest rocks Imphal

Imphal (Manipur), September 09 (ANI): After drone, missile attacks, now students have taken to the streets to protest against the current situation in Manipur. Several students from various schools, colleges and universities in Imphal rallied towards the Raj Bhavan on September 09. With posters in hand and raising slogans, students walked towards the Raj Bhavan and demanded the resignation of senior Police officials. They also demanded the withdrawal of paramilitary forces and the resignation of 50 MLAs on moral grounds. Meanwhile, to contain the protest, police resorted to using tear gas to disperse the crowd, resulting in some injuries. Briefing over the protest, Police official & Executive Magistrate of Imphal West said that the protest has been controlled. The latest protest from students came in response to the recent spike of violence and crisis that has gripped the northeastern State since last year. Manipur has been facing violence for more than 16 months following an ethnic clash that erupted last year after student protest.
