Shimla (HP), Sept 13 (ANI): Tensions simmer in Shimla as scores of people continued to protest against the alleged illegal construction of a mosque on Sep 13. Locals have been demanding the demolition of parts of the mosque that have been built beyond permissible limits in the Sanjauli. In a mass protest, the protesters clashed with police, toppling barricades and trying to enter restricted areas. Shimla Police, in retaliation, used water cannons and resorted to lathicharge on the angry protestors. As the dispute triggered tension, Markets were shut and additional security was deployed to maintain law and order. Earlier, Shimla Mosque President met Municipal Commissioner Bhupender Kumar Attri and submitted a memorandum. The President of Mosque also requested that the administration seal that part which is said to be ‘illegal’. Clerics also requested peace and harmony in the region and there should be brotherhood between different communities.
