Forward Air Base (Northern sector) [India], August 13 (ANI): The Indian Air Force has inducted its latest Heron Mark 2 drones at forward base in Northern sector. These drones have strike capability and can carry out surveillance along the borders with both China and Pakistan in a single sortie itself. The four new Heron Mark 2 drones can be equipped with long-range missiles and other weapons systems. The drones can operate at very long distances for close to 36 hours at a stretch. IAF is also working on Project Cheetah, under which around 70 Heron drones are to be upgraded with satellite communication links. The squadron operating the Heron Mark 2 drones is known as the ‘Warden of the North’. It has been carrying out surveillance missions along with borders with both China and Pakistan. The drones have been equipped with satellite communication links and are one of the most advanced drones with the Indian armed forces.
