Dhubri (Assam), May 3 (ANI): Ahead of Lok Sabha elections 2024 in Assam’s Dhubri in the third phase on May 7, ANI reached the town to talk about concerns of the people in the constituency. Dhubri is also called ‘Land of Rivers’ as it is covered three sides by Brahmaputra and Gadadhar rivers. While the district has a very busy river port which is used for international trade with the neighbouring Bangladesh, the major concern for the locals is the commutation from the Chaur area. Nestled between rivers, the area accommodates 100 villages, leading the inhabitants to use boat to reach the Dhubri town. In the rainy season, it becomes difficult for the locals to commute and the essential services are compromised to a greater extent. In the morning, school children also come from one bank to the other using a boat, to reach their school. Past attempts with bamboo bridges proved temporary and vulnerable to floods. The issue becomes an important agenda for the Lok Sabha Polls, highlighting the welfare and development of the Chaur area and its residents.
