Tripura CM Manik Saha launches awareness drive against child marriage

Agartala (Tripura), July 17 (ANI): Chief Minister Manik Saha, while attending a campaign under the NeshaMukt Bharat Abhiyan, addressed the growing concern of child marriage in the state. He reiterated that girls cannot be married before 18 and boys before 21, but noted that such practices continue, especially in rural areas. He said, "The rule is that a girl can't get married before the age of 18 years, and a boy can't get married before the age of 21 years. But we have observed that child marriages are happening in Tripura, and to create awareness of this, we are doing these campaigns. There were many students, and we told them about the challenges that come from child marriage... Many guardians, especially in villages, believe that if they arrange their daughter's marriage, they will be free from the responsibility...”
