TMC MP Jawhar Sircar resigns over mishandling Kolkata Rape-murder case, demands justice for ‘Abhaya’

Kolkata, September 09 (ANI): Rajya Sabha MP and leader of the Trinamool Congress resigned from the party on September 08 by sending his resignation letter to West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee. He resigned citing the State government’s “faulty handling” of the rape and murder case at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital. Speaking exclusively to ANI over his resignation and the situation in West Bengal after the RG Kar incident, Jawhar Sircar said the situation was “badly handled and was badly advised” by WB Govt. Further, he raised questions over the action not taken after vandalism was done at the site of incident. He said, “The turmoil prevailing in this state will have to be handled first. I can't understand why there was no prosecution regarding the vandalism...Why doesn't the police arrest the vandals?... Badli handled, badli advanced. Early action is what matters, once faith is lost it becomes very difficult...People remember and they do not forget. This is a highly political state and the women's movement must lead to something positive...Women in Bengal are the most protected and empowered women...Why even after being empowered they are on the roads?" Later on, he went on to say that, he couldn’t have raised his voice while being in the party and said, “You can’t stay in the party and declare Kranti.”
