Ahmedabad, December 22 (ANI): The Nalsarovar Bird Sanctuary, located near Viramgam in Ahmedabad district, has once again emerged as a top destination for bird watchers and nature enthusiasts. Every winter, from December to March, millions of migratory birds make their way to the sanctuary, making it one of the most popular birding sites in India. The sanctuary spans 120.08 square kilometers, with its shallow waters attracting over 350 species of birds, both native and foreign. Among the many species, flamingos, known for their vibrant pink feathers, have become a major attraction for tourists and photographers. The vast, open lake, dotted with small islands, provides a perfect nesting and feeding ground for these birds. One of the key highlights of the sanctuary is the arrival of flamingos, who land after ensuring the water levels are safe. These migratory birds, some arriving from distant regions such as Iran and Afghanistan, add to the sanctuary's reputation as a haven for birdwatchers and ornithologists. Scientists often tag the birds to study their migration patterns and understand the ecological importance of such habitats. The Nalsarovar Bird Sanctuary is not just a hotspot for migratory birds; it also plays a crucial role in the local ecosystem, with its rich aquatic life supporting a variety of species. Due to its unique biodiversity, the sanctuary attracts thousands of tourists each year, boosting the local economy, particularly in the hospitality sector.Managed by the Gujarat Forest Department, Nalsarovar is also a prime location for environmental studies, making it a pilgrimage site for bird scientists. With an increasing number of visitors each year, the sanctuary remains an important part of Gujarat's natural heritage.
