Thousands at risk from declining Chestnut production in Bandipora

Bandipora (J&K), September 17, (ANI): Wular Lake in Jammu and Kashmir, one of South Asia’s largest freshwater lakes, is facing a crisis that threatens the livelihood of thousands in the region. The lake’s diminishing water levels are raising concerns among local fishermen and chestnut harvesters, who rely on the lake for their primary source of income. Located in the Bandipora district of northern Kashmir, Wular Lake is a vital resource for over ten thousand families. The lake’s chestnuts, harvested by local fishermen and residents, are a major economic driver for the area, supplying vendors both within the Kashmir Valley and beyond. As the situation worsens, the local population is increasingly anxious about the future of their livelihoods and the sustainability of their vital resource.
