Tehreek-e-Hurriyat declared as ‘unlawful association’ under UAPA; Home Ministry takes strict action

New Delhi, December 31 (ANI): Ministry of Home Affairs on Dec 31 declared ‘Tehreek-e-Hurriyat’ as an ‘unlawful association’ under UAPA for next five years. Soon after MHA’s decision, Home Minister Amit Shah took to X and shared the information. He said that the organisation was involved in forbidden activities to separate J&K from India and establish Islamic rule in the valley. The Ministry said that TeH has been indulging in unlawful activities prejudicial to the integrity, sovereignty, and communal harmony of the country. It noted that TeH never believed in a democratic system, gave repeated calls to boycott Assembly elections on multiple occasions. This group was earlier headed by deceased separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani. Geelani passed away on September 1, 2021, after a prolonged illness. His death was believed as the second major setback for the separatists in Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370.
