Supreme Court rejects petitions seeking verification EVMs votes with VVPAT slips

New Delhi, Apr 26 (ANI): Supreme Court rejected petitions seeking 100 pc verification of votes cast on EVMs with paper slips generated through VVPATs. In a major decision, the apex court also rejected the plea of petitioners to return to ballot paper voting on April 26. The two-judge bench of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Dipankar Datta delivered a unanimous verdict. SC said that after the completion of the symbol loading process, the SLU should be sealed, stored at least 45 days. The Court also said that there will be an option for candidates to get microcontroller program of EVMs to be checked by engineers after election results. However, according to the court, such a request is to be made by the candidates within seven days after the declaration of results.
