Reportedly, a mob of nearly 1,000 people engaged in large-scale stone-pelting, vandalism, and arson. As per eyewitnesses, a team with their faces hidden with scarves carrying sharp weapons, stickers, etc started the ruckus. An official Maharashtra police notification reads that tensions escalated over the demand to remove Aurangzeb's grave. Around 200 to 250 members of VHP and Bajrang Dal gathered in Mahal to support removing Aurangzeb's grave. The protesters raised slogans demanding the grave's removal and displayed a symbolic green cloth filled with cow dung cakes. In response to the violence, Nagpur Police have issued prohibitory orders in the city and detained over 20 people. A curfew has been imposed in multiple areas of Nagpur city under Section 163 of the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. The police have been authorised to close roads in affected areas to maintain law and order situation
