Amreli, Gujarat: In a groundbreaking initiative that blends education with real-world business experience, Dr. Kalam Innovative School in Amreli, Gujarat, is transforming the way students learn. Through a unique program, the school is equipping students with practical business skills and an entrepreneurial mindset, allowing them to apply their knowledge beyond the classroom. Under the visionary leadership of founder and CEO Jay Kathrotia, the school has developed an innovative model where students not only study academic subjects but also engage in business activities. These initiatives enable them to earn, support their families financially, and reinvest in their own education. The school’s entrepreneurship program, implemented through the Kalam Youth Centre, offers students hands-on experience in various trades. With access to tools like T-shirt printing and laser cutting machines, students design, manufacture, and sell customized products including apparel, mugs, and wooden artifacts. This initiative focuses on building self-reliance among students—especially those under 14—by teaching essential business traits such as creativity, marketing, production, and financial management. “This concept has been going on since the past 4-5 months. The students have sold their products in B2C and B2B markets. Purses, wall clock, decorative items, pen stands and various other items are produced by children here and sold. In these 4-5 months, the children have earned nearly eight lakh rupees. This whole ecosystem is run by children only, and it is for them only. The 100% revenue is for children only,” Jay Kathrotia Director of Dr. Kalam Innovative School said. Dr. Kalam Innovative School’s model stands out as a successful example of integrating practical skill-building with traditional education, especially in rural areas. By nurturing student entrepreneurs, the school not only enhances academic learning but also strengthens family incomes and contributes to local economic development.
