Sambhal (UP), Feb 7, 2026 ANI): A sharp cut in US import tariffs has revived relief and optimism among Sambhal handicraft traders, renewing hopes for exports and global demand. Tariffs on Indian-origin goods falling from 50 per cent to 18 per cent mark a crucial turning point for exporters battered by the earlier hike. Sambhal, internationally known for horn-based handicrafts and home décor, has long remained an important link in the global artisanal supply chain. Traders say the previous tariff hike caused severe financial stress, freezing orders, delaying shipments, and straining long-built relationships with overseas buyers. With the revised tariff rate now active, exporters believe international trade flows will recover, restoring momentum across production and export cycles. According to a Joint statement, US will apply reciprocal 18 per cent tariffs across textiles, apparel, leather, home décor, artisanal goods, machinery and more items. This interim framework advances broader US–India Bilateral Trade Agreement talks launched by Narendra Modi and Donald Trump in February 2025
