Dzongu (Sikkim), June 1, 2025 (ANI): Due to continuous heavy rainfall and landslides, 9 tourists are reported missing and over 1,400 are stranded in North Sikkim. The powerful current of the Teesta River has severely impacted the Phidang Bailey Bridge, damaging one of its bases and putting the area at greater risk of isolation. Local residents and BRO (Border Roads Organisation) personnel worked tirelessly overnight to maintain access, but the future of the bridge hinges on the rising water levels. Despite multiple appeals from residents, the District Collector has allegedly dismissed renovation requests, claiming the bridge remains functional.
