Kathmandu (Nepal), March 07 (ANI): Celebrations erupted across Kathmandu and other parts of Nepal as supporters of Balendra Shah, popularly known as “Balen,” took to the streets after his party, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), claimed a sweeping lead in the 2026 parliamentary elections. Hundreds of supporters were seen singing, dancing and waving party flags outside vote counting centres, celebrating what they call a historic political shift in Nepal. The elections, held after a gap of six months, recorded an estimated voter turnout of around 60 percent. As counting continues for 165 seats under the First-Past-the-Post system, the RSP is leading in over 100 seats and has already secured several victories. Rival parties Nepali Congress and CPN-UML are trailing. Final results are expected within the coming week.
