Every year on November 4, Ganga Utsav celebrates the Ganga’s declaration as India’s National River, highlighting its cultural, ecological, and spiritual significance. This year, District Ganga Committees across Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal hosted events, with the main celebration in Ayodhya on November 5, coinciding with Kartik Purnima. Held at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University, the Ayodhya event blended faith and conservation. Students, Ganga Praharis, and locals gathered as artists brought the river’s message to life through songs and performances. V.L. Kantha Rao, Secretary, Ministry of Jal Shakti, addressed the gathering, emphasizing that the Ganga is not just a river, but the lifeline of India’s culture, economy, and millions of people. He stressed that devotion must go hand-in-hand with the responsibility of protecting the Ganga and its tributaries.
