PM Modi to inaugurate Bairabi–Sairang railway line, connecting Mizoram's capital to India's national railway network for the first time since independence Spanning 51.38 km the project includes 48 tunnels totaling 12.853 km and 142 bridges The new rail link significantly reduces travel time between Silchar and Aizawl, cutting the journey from around 8 hours by road to just 3 hours by train Similarly, the Guwahati–Aizawl route is now approximately 12 hours by rail The project, initiated in 2014, was completed with a revised cost of approximately ₹8,215 crore
