Madurai (Tamil Nadu), Dec 24 (ANI): With the aim of providing passengers with a world-class environment, the Indian Railways has taken on the redevelopment of Madurai Railway Station in Tamil Nadu state. Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, this station is being transformed into a world-class facility, designed to meet modern passenger needs while honoring the city’s rich cultural heritage. For this project, 347.47 crore rupees have been sanctioned. The plan includes the construction of one terminal each on the eastern and western sides. The redevelopment of Madurai Junction involves constructing a sub-station building, a multi-level two-wheeler parking facility in the east, an East terminal building in two phases, an air concourse, multi-level car parking on both the west and east sides, and a subway. With an increased focus on convenience, the revamped station will ensure smoother passenger movement, faster boarding, and reduced congestion during peak hours. Madurai, known as the "Temple City," holds immense cultural and historical significance, making this redevelopment an important step towards preserving its heritage while modernizing its transport infrastructure.
