Lok Sabha Elections 2024: After violence for almost a year, Manipur all set for polls

Imphal (Manipur) April 18 (ANI): After months of violence and tensions over ethnic clashes, Manipur is now ready for polls amid a sense of peace. The Northeast state will poll in 2 phases, with Inner Manipur voting on April 19 and Outer Manipur in both phases, on April 19 and 26. In the wake of mega elections, security has been heightened to ensure peaceful and smooth conduction of voting. A security briefing was conducted in Imphal early in the morning on April 18 to ensure peaceful elections. High-end security arrangements including CCTV and control rooms have been set up to avoid any untoward incidents. Imphal East Deputy Commissioner Khumanthem Diana Devi visited special polling stations to take stock of preparations. Notably, ethnic clashes erupted in Manipur in May, 2023 over consideration to include Meiteis in ST list.
