The decline threatens 1.5 lakh job opportunities for artisans and workers in the bat industry. Local economy, worth nearly ₹700 crores is at risk and global cricket community may face shortages of premium bats. Environmental factors, unsustainable practices have significantly reduced willow tree populations. Industry experts urge immediate conservation efforts to ensure that the cherished tradition does not fade away. The industry contributes significantly to Kashmir's economy, ranking third after tourism and agriculture.
