J-K: To hone Kashmiri talent, 8-day theatre festival organised in Srinagar

Srinagar, September 08 (ANI): To hone Kashmiri's talent, attract art lovers, and revive the cultural heritage of Kashmir, an eight-day-long theatre festival has been organised at the Tagore Hall in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar. Organised by the United Theater Movement of Kashmir in collaboration with the J&K Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages (JKAACL), the fest has given a platform to local artists to showcase their talent to the audiences. In the past, the theatre was considered the backbone of the cultures and traditions of Kashmiri. It played a major role in entertaining people and highlighting the social issues of society. Time has changed so have the mediums of entertainment but despite the modernisation and the emergence of a number of digital platforms including television, cinema, the internet, and overall digital platforms, the theatre hasn’t lost its importance and thus is still popular among art lovers. In comparison to television or cinema, any kind of live performance has its own taste and that’s why watching live theatre always attracts audiences on a large scale. The aim of organising these drama festivals is to attract young artists both boys and girls and provide them with a specific platform. With the help of such types of theatre festivals, a good number of artists will get a proper chance to show their calibre, which is very important to keep theatre activities alive for future generations. For the last few years, a number of theatre groups have been very active. The cultural academy supports them and aims to promote theatre activities that are also helping people especially the young generation to reduce their stress level. Therefore, people, especially art lovers, are always visiting Tagore Hall where they enjoy such types of festivals.
