Anantnag (J&K), Nov 08 (ANI): A group of nature enthusiasts, Manzoor Javaid, Dr Rouf Hamza and Mohammed Yusuf Ganie, who are also lecturers, recently discovered four major fossil sites near Sinthan Top around 45 km from South Kashmir’s Anantnag on November 08. They found these fossil sites while searching for fossil samples. The sites are rich in fossils belongs from the Paleozoic era, which existed millions of years ago. However, the exact age can be ascertained through serious research and Radiometric dating. These sites, which are studded with thousands of fossil remains, got exposed due to the construction and widening of roads and subsequent erosion. Simple observation reveals that thousands of fossils are visible at the sites without any excavation which indicates that a huge amount of fossils could be hidden underneath. Some of the fossil types identified include Bryozoa (such as Fenestella and Fenestrillina), Ostracods, Brachiopods, and plant fossils.
