Interim Nepal govt must build trust for Elections, says NC Leader Rijal

Kathmandu (Nepal), Nov 10 (ANI): Two months into Nepal’s interim government and four months before elections, Nepali Congress leader Minendra Rijal urged the administration to build trust across parties for smooth, fair polls. In an interview, he said PM Sushila Karki’s government must secure political confidence to successfully conduct the election. Nepali Congress chief Sher Bahadur Deuba, making his first public appearance since the September uprising, demanded strong security for the upcoming election. Meanwhile, the CPN-UML, led by ousted former PM KP Sharma Oli, is opposing the proposed March poll. The Gen-Z uprising of September 8–9, which left at least 74 dead, forced Oli to resign and triggered major political change in Nepal. After the unrest, parliament was dissolved and an interim government formed to guide Nepal to elections. Following five days of talks, former Chief Justice Sushila Karki was appointed interim Prime Minister, with polls set for March 5, 2026. The government now faces a fragile transition and the task of restoring public and political trust.
