IAF bids farewell to MIG-21 Bison fighter jets of No. 4 squadron; aircraft fly for the last time

Indian Air Force officially on October 31 bid adieu to No. 4 squadron of MiG-21 Bison fighter aircraft. Marking the end of an era IAF’s MiG-21 Bison fighter jets flew for the last time over Uttarlai town in Barmer, Rajasthan. On the auspicious occasion, the MiG-21 Bison fighter jets flew alongside the Su-30 MKI. In a bid to indigenisation, IAF plans to phase out MiG-21 squadrons and will replace them with LCA Mark-1A fighter jets. Earlier this month, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari highlighted the reasons to replace its aging Russian-origin aircraft. MiG-21 has been in service for more than 60 years now and has met with several accidents in the recent past. The IAF will have 40 LCA, over 180 LCA Mark-1A, and at least 120 LCA Mark-2 planes in the next 15 years.
