New Delhi, Jan 18 (ANI): Raghvendra Singh, former Union Culture Secretary and ex-director of Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, explained the role of his grandfather Guru Dutt Singh as Faizabad city magistrate when the idol of Ram Lalla ‘appeared’ in 1949. “When this happened on night 22-23 Dec 1949, the news spread like fire. There was an influx of devotees and they surrounded 'Ram Chabutra' and refused to leave. No one was ready to hear the idea of the removal of the idol. My grandfather, the then Faizabad city magistrate, took cognizance of this. The state govt had asked for the removal of the idol, as asked by the Centre. My grandfather told the then UP CM Govind Ballabh Pant not to visit the spot as the devotees gathered had got an idea that the state govt wanted to remove the idol & it could lead to a law and order situation. My grandfather stood his ground and didn't allow the CM to visit the spot. Before he tendered his resignation, he passed two orders- 'pooja-archana' at Ram Chabutra & Garbha Griha should be carried out without obstruction and Sec 144 CrPC should be implemented there," Raghvendra Singh narrated while talking to ANI.
