Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), September 23 (ANI): With each passing day, the diplomatic rift between India and Canada continues to widen. Both nations have resorted to tit-for-tat diplomacy in bilateral relationships. Criticism has been pouring in from India over PM Trudeau’s “absurd” allegations. Reacting to the same, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor expressed hope for restoration of India-Canada relations. “We absolutely have to rebuild that relationship because it’s based on far more than one allegation by a prime minister of a particular government that is going to be facing elections soon anyway. I think it’s a fundamental relationship between two countries and the fact remains that India and Canada have a lot going on for them. There is a major trade relationship, there are 17 lakh Indians living in Canada. 40 per cent of their international students are Indians. Given all of this, I have no doubt that the India-Canada relationship is important, it goes beyond any one incident or one government. The time will come when it can be restored. My hope is that both sides will conduct themselves with the maturity and calmness required to ensure that no lasting damage is done by this current controversy,” said Shashi Tharoor.
